a5c7b9f00b After New York City receives a series of attacks from giant flying robots, a reporter teams up with a pilot in search of their origin, as well as the reason for the disappearances of famous scientists around the world. The lives of reporter Polly Perkins and her ex-boyfriend, Joe Sullivan, intersect. For the past three years, large robots have been roaming the Earth, taking what they need, and vanishing as quickly as they appeared. Joe and his technical assistant Dex have been investigating and battling these mysterious robots. Meanwhile, many of the world's scientists have been systematically kidnapped. Dr. Jennings, believing that he is the next target, tells what little he knows to Polly. His beliefs are that Dr. Totenkopf, who has not been heard from in over thirty years, is carrying out a project he started prior to World War I, this project which may be associated with these robots. Polly and Joe, with Dex, join forces to find Totenkopf, which may not be easy due to their still antagonistic relationship. As they piece together Totenkopf's plot, Polly and Joe realize that stopping him from carrying out his grand plan of creating his version of a Utopian society may not be as easy as killing him. It was a fun movie to watch. There was a consistent touch of humor, serious intrigue, and light-hearted surprises throughout. Not a movie to catch the issues of the day, but more importantly, a delightful movie that catches your imagination and heart. The movie crosses the lines of reality, past and future with comic-like background and theme, with heroes able to carry the day. One sees and hears humorous barbs, scenes, and dialog that makes this a truly eclectic and diverse movie of characters, with integrity and persistence. Gwyneth Paltrow played a beautiful member of the press, and Jude Law did a good job, both making this a fun movie. Highly recommended and truly entertaining. 8/10. I had great hopes for this one. The first fifteen minutes had me feeling it was going to be all I'd hoped for, noir, art deco, fun stereotypes, and Battle of Britain, London in the Blitz feel. Then Gwyneth Paltrow seems to slowly lose her character, the movie starts to grind, and you think OK Angelina Joli is going to come in and save it. The she DOES! She's cool and the RAF/RN is cool. She upstages everyone, administers the coup de grace to Paltrow, then she bloody LEAVES! She's there for five minutes, Leaving you feeling like you've been deserted to stagger downward to the movie's unsatisfying end all alone. This movie could have begun a trend to put some glamour back in other films and even effect fashion but a bad plot killed any hopes. Like and empty gift, great art and visuals can't cut it if there's nothing inside. Sky Captain is a gorgeous, funny, and welcome novelty. The two vials contained the material for Totenkopf's genetically engineered humans, his Adam and Eve. "Sky Captain" is Joe's call-sign, or pilot nickname. The story behind it remains unknown.
